Here is a short snippet that has recently inspired me 💡
Eventually, you'll need an ecosystem of support. One of the ways you can cultivate the reputation you want is to recruit the help of certain people. These include:
People who can refer you when the right kind of prospective client asks them for a referral.
People who can get you in front of their audience and help you connect with the right kind of prospective clients.
People who can call attention to your work because it's relevant to their audience.
People who have a complementary product or service who can refer you to their customers or clients.
People who admire your work and spread the word without you asking them.
(The Positioning Manual for Indie Consultants book, page 151 of 162)
Whether you are a dreamer aspiring to start you own business, a starter who just launched, a rookie who is searching for stability or a veteran searching for new ways to expand the business (the 4 levels of experience i’m using here at Solopreneur Gym), i think it’s useful to reflect on how much you have already developed these kinds of business expanding networks.
And how you will intentionally develop them in the next months.
For me, the snippet triggered two questions:
Who are the people that have my prospective clients as part of their audience?
Who are the people that have complementary products or services?
And further, going fast through a “What? (insight) - So what? (implications) - Now what? (action)” cycle, found 3 people in both categories to (re)connect with in November.
What does the snippet trigger for you?
Stay curious,
