Hi solopreneurs,
Today’s inspiration comes from the world of consulting. Luk Smeyers shares about the Distortion Layer as it applies to consulting firms.
After a minute of reflection, turns out i’ve been dealing with many of these traps in the past 10 years since i’ve been working as a solo business owner.
Maybe it’s a good opportunity to reflect on your own business, where leadership = you?
The Distortion Layer - how consulting firms get trapped
FOMO - Fear of missing out makes leadership chase every opportunity, diluting focus and clarity.
EGO - Belief that the consultancy can succeed at any project leads to overreach and lack of focus.
OPPORTUNISM - A habit of saying yes to anything that generates revenue blocks strategic discipline.
GREED - The pursuit of short-term gain overrides long-term strategic planning and differentiation.
FEAR OF SPECIALIZATION - Worry that narrowing focus will shrink opportunity, not realising it creates strength.
LEGACY BAGGAGE - Old offerings, client types, and habits linger even when they no longer serve the strategy.
PLEASING SYNDROME - Fear of disappointing clients leads to weak boundaries and too much order-taking work.
Till next time,
Bülent
